As I mentioned in a post weeks ago, Shaw in his post Big Game presser mentioned he'd take the match up of Parkinson against the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year all day long. That mentality is a little like running between the tackles 4 straight times because it's what we do. Scheme or no scheme, seems to me one would try to get Parkinson on somebody a little less talented.
Interestingly, the alleged best defense in the NFL gave up 40+ points to the Saints. Why? According to the talking heads, because the Saints took advantage of a weakness in the Niners defense-the middle of the field-- they could exploit and attacked it relentlessly. Also, when one of the Niners went down, the Saints went right after the backup. Schemes change week to week, sometimes, play to play, in an attempt to exploit the weaknesses of the opposition. Our mentality has been to do what we do over and over, cause it's what we do.
