You often post threads that are directed towards individual members. Are you aware of the PM feature?

Let me interpret for you.  Phogge thought Mick would be best equipped to answer, because Mick is very ready with baseball stats.

However BC answered, so there's now a discussion going on.  In public.  That is of interest to some others.

Using PMs seems to contradict the mission of a community board where we share thoughts.  We might as well be emailing and texting each other and bypassing the board.

I should add that everyone appreciates this board but sometimes the sandbox gets a little messier than one might like.  Board admins just banned a new poster who came off a bit snarky but certainly didn't seem IMHO that abusive or offensive.  We get it; there's a fine line between members and "trolls" and it ain't a democracy.

Let me address these in order:

1. It was a serious question. I was sincerely trying to determine whether the member didn't know how to use the PM feature.
2. Perhaps, a more descriptive thread topic would be useful. 
3. Almost all message board platforms have had private messaging and other non-public features for many years.
4. I'm not aware of any new members having been banned.
