We win 61-58.
We may have won the battle, but we paid a dear price for it potentially with Haley's injury. The broadcasters were commenting about tears in her eyes; hopefully it was not from a bad prognosis regarding her knee.
I think Tara's strategy to run down the clock on our possessions at the end of the game while we had the lead was a reflection of her lack of confidence in our offense to keep up with Oregon State if they score multiple times. With this strategy, it limits the number of Beavers' possessions so that we will have to stop them fewer times.
As one of the broadcasters pointed out, we have no Plan B with these possessions when we run out the clock. We don't give ourselves enough time to find another answer if our first play is guarded closely as we start it with fewer than 10 seconds and so it usually results in a turnover or desperation, low-percentage shot.
Anyway, I really appreciated our team's mental toughness to withstand another superstar's great performance, a hostile crowd and runs by a great team. We didn't fold in critical situations and we came up with enough clutch baskets to pull out the win.
Now we wait for the prognosis on Haley's injury. I feel our chances for a conference title and a deep postseason run will take a nosedive if we lose her and Carrington and Dodson remain sidelined as well.
