carryover with tournament rounds more heavily weighted than qualifying rounds and then there will be "contested" qualifying rounds, may be at different tracks, that count toward qualifying. usually more than one slot is in play for qualifying and there is enough openness that someone can get on a streak and move from the bottom of the board to playing when the flag is up.
