As someone who has taken the time to learn about the history of the Vietnam War, the question Kerry posed was well reasoned and totally legitimate, regardless of how self-serving and reptilian he might have been. The Vietnam War, by any reasonable measure was a mistake that killed over 68,000 Americans who died in vain in a war that was impossible to “win” from the beginning.
We are on the precipice of a mistake even bigger than the Vietnam War, compressed into a matter of months, if you count lives and treasure as the cost. The difference is the U.S. military was being used to no avail in Vietnam, and now it isn’t being used to any avail with this pandemic.
