For what it is worth I hope they are right. If the infectious rate is higher and the mortality lower than previously believed, it would enable a more rapid reopening of the economy and it decreases the risk that extraordinary measures are needed to maintain the hospitalized patient count under control. Even underestimating the case count by 2-3 fold would help a lot.
