The "no big game on Thanksgiving weekend" decision reportedly came from the California side of the equation. 

Well, it was mentioned in Barbour's official response, and not Bowlsby's, but I wonder whether it would affect Stanford even more, since no classes Thanksgiving week. Still, Thanksgiving week is better than October.
