One serious note. I wouldn't be surprised if this is part of a bigger move for ESPN. They've been investing in local sports journalism in big markets--Boston, New York, Dallas, LA--and I wonder whether the Bay Area's next. With the local economy doing the way it is (overall), the demographics are about as desirable as any place, and the competition is not exactly formidable at this point in time. ESPN SF could be a thing of the future, and Kevin Gemmell, Stanford beat writer would be a natural fit in that particular plan, if indeed they have it.
