yes, you pick your spots depending on pace of play and if you don't have the honors on the next box. generally I've found match play faster than stroke play due to concessions so usually there is a bit more time and other groups are doing the same thing you are.
on Hagen, he was pretty good at match play. at one point in the PGAs, he was something like 32 of 33 in 36 hole matches. since this thread started I've read more on these matches and the strategy was the concessions stopped by the 30th hole. everything from that point on had to be holed.
