RPI was Cleveland State 85, Stanford 97.
Maybe Stanford was seeded 6th and Cleveland State was 3rd.  But when they looked at TV scheduling, they decided they needed a late, West Coast game, so they swapped the seeds.  There would be no difference in who plays whom, but it works right for scheduling.
(Note that NIT-ology site did not predict Cleveland State in the NIT)

Also, Stanford has the bigger home crowds:
Cleveland State avg home attendance: 3260;  Stanford: 5393

The NIT first round games are on the 13th and 14th, on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 and ESPNU.  (Times EDT)

http://wolsteincenter.com/  indicates they have another event on the 14th (so they couldn't move the AZ game to 11PM on the 13th and play 9PM on the 14th in Cleveland).  Possibly (but it seems unlikely) that the setup for that event precluded any game there on the 13th.
