I know nobody ever jumps to conclusions on the internet, but in this case, does anyone know the testing situation that existed for this dinner?
The Golden State Warriors are planning to have fans at Chase Center, based on rapid PCR testing that is 99% effective at identifying the virus. This is not the antigen test the Pac-12 is STUPIDLY relying on after the White House proved this test with only 70% accuracy does not help stop spread.
It apparently costs about $125/test. I have no idea whether this kind of testing was used for Newsom's dinner or not, but if it was, there is nothing really to see here other than an example of how the privileged can get tested to gather safely and the masses can't.
Listening to Ramona Shelburne on Papa & Lund yesterday morning she explained how there have been parties in the Hamptons that require attendees to take these rapid PCR tests the Warriors are patterning their plan after, so I doubt such a procedure would be out of the CA Governor's reach. Shelburne also reported the Biden transition team is being advised by people who know all about these rapid PCR tests, with an eye toward getting these them scaled up and rolled out across the country. Perhaps if the Federal Government purchased them en masse, the cost will go down. This is the power the Federal Government has with FEMA that the current administration has not effectively leveraged.
If this Newsom dinner was attended by people who did not get properly tested before they gathered, Newsom should be flogged.
But the Congress should be flogged no matter what. How the hell can they gather together for an inside event and expect the public not to follow their example? Pelosi says the tables are six feet apart and the room is well-ventilated. AYFKM? Mask wearing is impossible when eating and drinking, and I don't think the American public is capable of grasping the ventilated nuance. On a day with 184,000 new cases, it is so tone deaf to have this Congressional orientation event as to be breathtaking. I just heard The Hartford isn't allowing employees back in the office until at least June, but let's get our elected lawmakers together?
I'm now grappling with when to go back to CT. Seeing our incompetent leaders act the fools as they are, makes me feel like those who would be traveling with nearing 200k cases a day in the country, are going to be those with the worst judgment, those who follow the lead of the Washington elite. It all ads up for creating higher risk for me and my family, people who have been responsible throughout this whole pandemic and given up quite a lot to keep us and others safe.
