Yesterday Tara's introductory online session provided us an opportunity to see the coaches, the newcomers, and the veteran players in a familiar talking-heads Zoom array. Tara introduced each member, sharing a few of her impressions and expectations of each. It was vintage Tara, a bit stiff and controlled sprinkled with a few Taraisms, a style that we’ve come to expect.
In the digital era, perhaps we could find a softer approach—a video of a scrimmage, players showing off their individual on-court skills, or even players spontaneously sharing their personal stories. Perhaps the team and coaches could collaborate in the presentation and not be cast in abbreviated roles. Sure, I’m asking too much, but we have so much potential, so much talent on the team.
I am a fan, because I love to see our women display their talents on the court. And I’ll bet they would be a kick in a less structured event where they could display their off-court personalities as well.
