Why would Kelly do a press conference and field so many questions (and talk so much) about a freshman transferring?

Watching it, it seemed clear that doing so was a mistake. Kelly kept talking about random things like how he has to have his head and heart into things as a head coach, about the challenges in the classroom and on the field at Notre Dame, about his experiences at Central Michigan and other schools...just a really awkward and strange talk that seemed completely unnecessary. Maybe he felt the need to defend himself, somehow?

If a star freshman transfers from Stanford, I hope the school and coaches just put out a two-paragraph news release and wish the kid well.
