One of the oddest moments in Olympic history. An imposter jumped onto the course just ahead of Shorter as he entered the stadium. Erich Segal (yes, the guy who wrote Love Story but who also was a runner and marathon scholar) was doing the color commentary for ABC for the marathon. He was yelling from the booth to Frank Shorter to ignore the runner ahead of him. "That is an imposter! Get him off the track! ... This happens in bush league marathons! ... Throw the bum out! ... Get rid of that guy! . . . . Come on Frank! You won it! ... It's a fake, Frank!"
