Hear me out. A few supporting points:
1) During those four tournaments, Woods was a collective -65, 65 under. Next best, collectively, were Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els at a collective -20, 20 under. So Woods beat the 2nd and 3rd best by 45 strokes, or more than 11 per round.
2) When compared to the average finish of the made-the-cut golfers at those four tournaments, Tiger was a collective -89, or 22.25 strokes better than the average golfer in those four majors.
3) He was under par for 13 consecutive rounds in those four tourneys, the longest streak in history.
4) He led or co-led the field for every round in driving distance and greens-in-regulation, two stats that don't always walk hand-in-hand.
5) During those 16 rounds, he made just 23 bogies. Next best was Justin Leonard (41), Els (44), and Mickelson (43).
6) In driving distance, Els was the closest competition to Woods' 307.4 yards on drives, and he was 18 yards shorter than him on average. The rest of the field was 29 yards shorter than Woods on average.
7) He didn't have a single three-putt at Pebble Beach (tough on those poa annua greens).
8) The Old Course had 112 bunkers, and Tiger didn't hit into any of them.
9) He only teed it up in 18 tournaments in that stretch, and won eight and the TPC championship, while finishing no worse than 23rd.
10) At the time, Tiger had the scoring records in all four tournaments; U. S. Open (-12), British Open (-19), Masters (-18), PGA Championship (-18). All four have since been broken.
Why would there be an argument? Terrific feat.
