The religion issue was bogus back then and some ten years later it's just a sideshow to a random reappearance of Ron Brown on the national radar screen. garvin's right. Competence and qualifications are the issue. At the time Brown interviewed at Stanford, he had no resume other than a long time asst. coach for one school. At least Tyrone had been to seven county fairs and had a job with an actual NFL team when he was offered the HC job at Stanford. Subsequently, Ron Brown enhanced his resume by doing exactly nothing football related when laid off by the one school that had ever given him a job. And then he came back to the same job after waiting for Nebraska to come to its senses and give him his old job back.Â
The point was neither Ted's Buddy nor Ron Brown were logical choices on the face of their qualifications. One had proved he was a loser the higher he rose in the football world and the other had proved nothing. apart from being a niche survivor.  That Brown tried to make it look like his rejection was about race and religion just showed another axis on which he could be judged not ready for prime time.
So the correct answer is "none of the above."Â and in both cases history be.ars this out.
