Interesting choice. Madsen has never struck me as the coaching type. He was always a "bull them over" with power rather than finesse mentality, which leads me to think he's less an X's and O's guy, but perhaps that's not fair an assumption. Based on my personal interaction with him, I think he'll do really well in the living room conversations with recruits. He's fairly charismatic and certainly exudes energy and confidence. He's got NBA championship rings on his fingers.
Is this just an attempt by Dawkins to connect to the golden age of Stanford basketball?
On a side note, I was chatting with my wife about the whole Justin Combs scholarship controversy and we brought up Madsen as an example of a Stanford player who certainly didn't need a scholarship to attend Stanford. He was probably one of the few NBA players whose dad makes more money than he did in the league (as an executive at Goldman Sachs, unless my intel is wrong.)
