Stanford with three players under par today (Thorbjornsen, Vilips and Menon all shot 70) illustrates the depth of the team. But also the weakness of this lineup. On a day when the golf course was playing relatively easy (average score over a stroke better than yesterday), no one went really low. Without Shimp and Brown, Stanford is a team of 3, 4 and 5 players right now without anchors at 1 and 2 (e.g., Salinda and Wu in 2019) who can go low.
The team finished the 2nd round in 8th place, right where they started the day. But only 4 shots below the cut line. They have 18 holes tomorrow to get it going.
