Olympic years also seem to impact Stanford because we lose players in several sports to Olympic teams or training in the hope of making Olympic teams. I don't know if that is quantifiable this year or any year, but it seems we usually need an extra cushion to overcome the loss. With COVID-19 restrictions, the two year Olympic loss, and a bad year for injuries to some sports that usually score well, this year is one where we are most likely to not win. I hope we will be a lot closer to our usual level next year.
And I know it's not the end of the world and most college sports fans don't care, but I do and will be sad if/when we don't win.
Cheers,
Pete F.
