Lots of what-ifs, Terry.
What if Stanford football had played a full season and had its starting left tackle, best cornerback and starting QB prepared and playing, and it ended up in a bowl game and ranked at season's end?
What if Zaire Williams, Daejon Davis and Bryce Wills had not missed so many games and Stanford men's BB had made the tournament?
What if, in summer 2020, officials had announced that the summer Olympics would be postponed until 2022, and athletes who had left Stanford to train played for Stanford instead?
What if the officials had ruled the knee down/forward lateral on November 20, 1982?
At this point, I tip my cap to Texas and congratulate them on winning the Directors' Cup.
This is kind of where I'm at, too. We fell short in too many sports this year, and had too many unlucky things happen, when margins were already slender due to new Cup rules. Meanwhile, Texas did great; they have an outstanding all-around sports program, and arguably could have done even better this year in several sports. I wish we could have kept this streak going, no doubt about it. But we got beat. Good work, Longhorns. We'll get you next year.
