As I recall, those duties were performed primarily by Kiana Williams and Haley Jones last year. Kiana is gone and Haley has been turnover prone. I don't recall seeing Anna bringing the ball up much last year. Jana, when she brought up the ball, had her issues, especially with the 10 second calls.
I recall Jana had one 10 second call, but what were the other issues
I recall only one ten-second call, as well. That, and two times early in the season, when she had her pocket picked. But that’s part of the baptism of a freshman player. She must have learned her lesson, because I don’t recall another such turnover. Tara even trusted her to play briefly in the Finals. My money is on Jana to play the lion's share of PG. She really keeps her eyes peeled when streaking down the court and she's strong, but we will see who gets the call.
And remember: PT begets confidence, begets better play.
Thus, I have little doubt that Stanford will be competent (at least) at PG position, bringing the ball up and getting things going offensively. But there's a delta between competent and what Ki brought to the table during her time on the Farm. Her combo of dribble penetration, pull-up mid-range game, and good shooting from behind the arc was quite a package. I don't think that skillset is on the roster; therefore, I expect less dribble penetration from guard position, more emphasis on post player scoring (though not necessarily in the low block) in half court sets, and perhaps continued emphasis on getting out in transition (so half-court O may not have to rely on dribble-penetration to get a shot off against stout half-court defenses).
The Stanford WBB team should be very good to excellent . . . at least a shot to defend. And that's pretty exciting.
