From a Bayesian perspective, you might still allow your posterior rankings to take into account your Bayesian priors, at least until you have more than a handful of games to base it on.

I wouldn't worry too much about our ranking this early.  I think we are a good team, but still have a ways to go to get to the elite levels, and the rankings will eventually show it.  We did, after all, get swept by Texas, even if they are the top team in the country.
