I think that's fair, but it reminds me a bit of when I used to play competitive sports. My performance (which wasn't all that good), would wax and wane, but I would always benchmark to the one game when everything sort of clicked and I was playing out of my mind. I would then beat myself up for not meeting that standard for myself. My son, who plays golf, is the same way. He had one round where he hit par, and ever since then, he has been disappointed with rounds in the mid- or high-70's even though they are objectively a significant improvement from where he was a year or two ago. But the fact that he had one great round has translated into pressure on himself to have a similar round every time he goes out, because he knows he could do it.
