Well, narrative has a way of adapting itself for convenience. No one remembers Harbaugh blowing the UCLA 2008 game because, well, it's obvious Harbaugh is a great coach and the only people in a position to remember are, well, us--and we've got no quarrel with the guy. And no one remembers Chip Kelly making the exact same mistake with a worse kicker against SC in 2011 because he's Chip Kelly. So if Shaw and Williamson do well it'll probably be forgotten, or remembered in a way that accentuates what swell people they are.
Focus on Williamson aside, I think if anything it proves how overrated in-game coaching decisions can be. Shaw's error in going with Williamson wasn't even the worst coaching error of the game--that would be Gundy's perplexing decision not to go for it on 4th-and-goal from the 1.
