Yeah, that's exactly right--he doesn't count. That said, it's strange to call it a silver lining. Barton's a good player--offers from Boise State, Utah, Vanderbilt, various Pac-12 programs. I'd be perfectly happy if he came in with the rest of his recruiting class.
Barton's a 4 star to ESPN and Rivals, a high-three star for 247, and Scout is a pretty far-off outlier as a medium three-star. (Oddly, Scout's been an outlier on a lot of Stanford recruits--on the low side. The idea that Ryan Burns is the #38 QB and Doug Randolph is the #31 OLB is goofy at best.)
Barton's our sixth four-star recruit in this class according to Rivals. That ties us for 13th nationally. Our average star rating is 3.71, fourth in the country. Our five Rivals 250 players places us second in the Pac-12 and third among regular opponents (i.e. plus ND).
Major targets left are Devon Allen, Jordan Cunningham, Johnny Johnson and Will Likely. Possible there's a stealth recruit in there as well.
