I'm a big fan of Dune. It was one of my favorite books in high school and my son and I read it leading up to the movie. It's not as good as I remembered it from my youth, but it still does a great job of creating a world that feels complete, with history, and culture, that is quite immersive.
I thought the movie was good, but not as good as I'd hoped. I didn't care about the Zendaya perfume commercials, but the long looks at handsome Paul standing on an outlook in some fancy costume got to be a bit much. They also missed out on the Gurney Hallek character who's supposed to be a bard of sorts. But the visuals were amazing and I thought it did a good job with the story as someone who knew it, but I wondered if those who hadn't read the book would understand what was going on.
I'm glad Part 2 was greenlit.
