Tara's efforts and the team's efforts to navigate everything were exceptional and I think even now we are witnessing how the combination of COVID-19 and COVID-19 protocols over the last 18 months are still impacting Stanford athletics as more than a few teams are not quite as crisp and cohesive as one might have seen in the past.
I suspect in a few years we will see research on the pandemic and its impact on mental health and physical health as well as academic and athletic performance for different groups of students and student-athletes including those that never tested positive for COVID.
FWIW - While the impact of COVID is perhaps most visible to outsiders through the sports teams, I can only guess many of those difficulties and challenges continue to impact a lot of the students, faculty and staff on a campus that even in the best of times has been called an isolated bubble/island with many living on campus living hundreds or even thousands of miles from their home support networks.
That brief insight into the challenges of coaching through COVID at Stanford is why I was confident Stanford coaches would generally get a pass in 2020-2021 and based on how the fall has progressed so far for Stanford athletics I suspect we could see most Stanford coaches getting a similar pass in 2021-2022.
