With that in mind, I still enjoy watching the various systems and attempting to anticipate their weekly results. And, since the AP poll is the de facto standard in ranking women’s basketball and it does influence the eventual pairings at tournament time, I think it bears watching.
I have heard Tara say numerous times that she doesn’t care about the ranking, that she spends her time coaching and preparing her team to win. I understand and appreciate that as well. Ranking are a diversion, they are a way for the fan to spend his or her idle time until the next game is played.
So, as I sit here in Nassau anticipating Monday’s version of the APs weekly ranking announcement, I find myself wondering how the ranking systems will reflect this week of multiple upsets.
Below I have listed the order of the major rankings, and I have made my predictions as well. My system in not mathematical and it is, admittedly, based on hunches and personal team preferences. I have listed last week’s rankings of the AP sports writers, the USA Today Coach’s Poll, and the Massey Poll (that ‘81 alluded to).
I will start with my own predictions:
# — ME — AP — CP — MASSEY
=========================
1 — SC — SC — SC — SC
2 — NS — MD — CN — AZ
3 — CN — CN — MD — NS
4 — BA — IU — NS — CN
5 — ST — NS — ST — TX
6 — MD — BA — IU — UN
7 — IU — ST — LU — ST
8 — AZ — IO — BA — TN
9 — IO — AZ — MI — BA
0 — LU — LU — TN — LU
I’m looking forward to the remaining games of the Stanford Women’s Basketball season! Come to the games and bring a friend. Win or lose, these women deserve our support.
Fully endorse that "come to the games and bring a friend. Win or lose . . . " Yes, Yes, yes! Interesting that you see Az as going so high. They are going to be a tough challenge in the Pac-12
