Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, Ohio State's two best WRs have opted out of the Rose Bowl. So now, players are even skipping the Grandaddy when it isn't a CFP game. The bowl games have been so de-valued by the playoff that even playing in the Rose Bowl isn't special for some players.
This is why the CFP must be expanded. If Olave and Wilson don't think the Rose Bowl is a big enough deal to play, why should I watch it? Bowl games have always been a lot about which team feels motivated to play in the game, but never the Rose Bowl. When the Rose Bowl isn't considered a big enough deal for players to play in, the sport has a very big problem.
As many of you know, I have been welcoming the demise of the bowl system for years, so I am pleased to see the bloom falling off the non-CFP bowl game rose.
As for games that DO matter...
In one of those "who was more motivated games," #20 and 11-1 Houston beat 6-6 Auburn 17-13. Auburn took Alabama to OT and should have won. Cincinnati beat Houston pretty soundly in the AAC championship. Does this even a little bit suggest Cincy can hang with Bama? Alabama will be playing without WR Metchie III who was instrumental in win over Georgia.
Speaking of Georgia, I'm going with EUTM to lead Michigan to crystal football glory. I'm going with Michigan to take down Georgia and Alabama.
Alabama will beat Cincy by at least 17. Assuming it doesn’t lose key players to Covid. Georgia will beat Mich 28-21. Assuming again, no major Covid issues.
