"'UCLA's statement makes it very clear that their inability to play was due to the protocols in place and not the virus itself,' Bowl Season Executive Director Nick Carparelli said in a text to ESPN."
Uhhh, it does? I didn't see anything that clearly indicated that in UCLA's statement.
So what is Nick implying? That yes, UCLA has sick players, but they just had cold symptoms and would be playing were it not for someone deciding athletes infected with Covid shouldn't be playing? Seems to be a very stupid statement to be making. "Yes, he took a shot to the head and can't remember what year it is, but he can still run and hit, and would be playing without these lame concussion protocols!"
UCLA's statement, which provides no real clarity on the details of why, but I would have been shocked if it had.....

Statement from UCLA Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond
"We are extremely grateful to the Holiday Bowl, students, fans, sponsors and the people of San Diego for their support this week.
"We are deeply disappointed for our young men in the football program that worked extremely hard for this opportunity. My heart goes out to them. The health and safety of our students will always be our North Star."
