That yes, UCLA has sick players, but they just had cold symptoms and would be playing were it not for someone deciding athletes infected with Covid shouldn't be playing? Seems to be a very stupid statement to be making. "Yes, he took a shot to the head and can't remember what year it is, but he can still run and hit, and would be playing without these lame concussion protocols!"I don't know for sure, but what I THINK is being said is that there are some players that tested positive, and that these players have close contacts that must quarantine, so UCLA can't field a team. Indeed it is because of Covid protocol, not because there are that many players literally sick.
My reaction is "So what?" There are rules in place to protect the players from exposure to others that may become positive at any time because they were exposed. No news here, always has been that way.
"The UCLA football team is unable to participate in tonight's San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl due to COVID-19 protocols within the Bruins' program."
No mention of sick players at all. Perhaps someone can provide a link regarding UCLA's sick players mentioned above? Curious as to the facts, not that they necessarily matter.

Quote:NC State coach Dave Doeren was not happy about the way the cancelation went down, however.
"We felt lied to, to be honest. We felt like UCLA probably knew something was going on with their team but didn't tell anybody on our side," he said. "We had no clue that they were up against that. I don't feel like it was very well handled from their university. It would have been great to have a heads up that this could happen. Maybe two or three days ago we could have found a plan B. It's disappointing."

Sounds like a number were infected, not just prohibited because of protocols.
and of course NC State was not allowed to play in the CWS final due to COVID issues....
