No, Utah had the ball out-of-bounds at the Stanford end of the court, down 8. Utah calls time (with 2 more TO left) with 25.3 left in the game, presumably to advance the ball. Nothing unusual about that.
But the coach probably felt she needed to get her players fired up and to show she supported them. The game was almost definitely out of reach. I think she intentionally got a technical after she called the time-out. Looked pretty mild to me. I can see her complaint, even if I don't believe the calls were bad. Nothing unusual about a coach getting a T in that situation. But it did mean that the game was then over, but maybe it will bond coach & players for the future.
I wonder if Michele Smith would say "Not a big advocate of this communication strategy" (as she did about the quote attributed to Adia Barnes). Frankly, I don't see much difference in the two strategies.
