No they cannot compete for prize money. That is the delineation between amateur and professional.
The difference is that prize money rewards you for your skill in the sport. Endorsements reward you for your "persona." Of course a big element of your persona is based on your skill, but there's a clear, hard line.
Correct, but a pro tournament could now compensate amateurs in the form of appearance money in the guise of NIL fees for promotional work.
Not likely for an LPGA event but if NIL had existed during Tiger's time at Stanford he would have surely gobbled up tons of NIL money as well as million dollar appearance fees for playing in selected PGA events.
