Would I rather have Nunes than Maynard? Yeah certainly, Maynard has proven over a full season that he is a poor QB while JN still has time to improve. But I think you're making some excuses for JN- Maynard has had players drop balls as well, and he's also playing behind a less competent line, with multiple injured TEs. Sure Keenan Allen is better than anybody we have at WR, but Stanford's offense aside from the QB is better than kal's offense aside from the QB. And yet Maynard's numbers are significantly better, and it's not even that close.
JN is playing poorly. We are 3-0 in spite of him and not because of him. A 53% completion percentage is poor, and it's not just explained by a few dropped balls. He's made some good throws, but also a lot of terrible throws.
