The reports at the time were that Riley definitely interviewed and Riley definitely did not impress. That might have been disinformation coming from those who wanted to follow the easy path to Ted's Buddy. OR it might jibe with the idea that Riley didn't want the Stanford job and just sleep-walked through the interview. One story that emerged afterwards tends to confirm that some sort of interview/interaction took place: Riley was quoted somewhere as saying he had a bad cold/flu, was feeling crappy but interviewed anyway. His explanation was his failure to impress came from being sub-optimal during showtime. But, maybe it was STANFORD that failed to impress.Â
OR.... it's ALL mis and dis information. All gone now. Except that he's dropping by again in a few weeks with another bunch of middle tier Pac-12 talent that seems to be following the pattern for Riley-led teams: tough and dangerous if taken lightly.
