Well, when you're hiding out in a blacked out camper at 3am with a concealed camera and camouflaged shotgun mic outside and Sonny exits the Oakland HQ during a stakeout and rants pre throat operation, he's colorful.

Now, THAT also qualifies as a colorful life.   Wow, I'd love to hear more from that story.

Barger led a criminal enterprise that for several decades dealt in heroin, cocaine, meth, illegal guns, violence, and murder. Early in his career he and his associates made a practice of beating the crap out of anti-Vietnam War protesters, and they also killed someone at the infamous Altamont concert while threatening the Rolling Stones at gunpoint to continue playing. Barger spent a number of years in prison, but not nearly enough. He beat the living crap out of his third wife (he had four), breaking a few bones and lacerating her spleen, for which he spent a total of eight days in jail. Not a serious offense, I guess. There is much more. Anyway, if you want to lionize this scumbag as some kind of American hero, be my guest. It’s a free country, theoretically.
