Ladies, plural.  The Machine is a nickname for Isabella Summers, Florence Welch’s partner.  Florence’s nickname was “Florence Robot” and they were originally going to be called Florence Robot/Isa Machine, which they realized was too long; hence Florence and the Machine.

Anyways, really like Breath of Life, maybe because I’m a pulmonologist.

If you want to feel old, realize that the front man for the band (Inhaler) is Bono’s (yeah, that Boni) son.  Sounds just like him, too.
