Another contributing factor to the outrageous number of sacks taken by Edwards and Ostrander was the offensive play calling during that era.  I recall that we did not incorporate the concept of a "hot read" that would allow the QB a quick release.  When asked why the offense never seemed to use a "hot read", Edwards (I think) said that it was not a part of the passing offense.
