I thought Dawn Staley's quote was telling (about her, not about the topic of the article). I took her "we" as "coaches" (not "fans").
I did wonder about the percentages of former (M v. W) NCAA BB players that are now officials. That is, if you look at (M v W) refs who are, say, 40-45 yo, and you compare that to the number of NCAA (M v W) BB players when that age group was in college, do men or women go into officiating (or coaching) at significantly higher or lower rates? [No, you don't need to have played BB at a NCAA school to be an official now - this is just a proxy for the numbers that played the sport in college.]
