Hard to judge either Stanford or USC based on what they did last Saturday. It was their first games of the season and the games were against Colgate and Rice. I would also note that it looks like Rice had their backup QB in the game starting in the second quarter, and three of USC’s touchdowns were pick sixes (two off the Rice backup QB).
I think Scott Wolfe does a good job of looking at the strengths and weaknesses of the Trojans. He brings a certain amount of salt to what is otherwise generally a giant hype machine surrounding the program. Here is his latest view based on what he saw in the Rice game. Sounds like the Trojans haven’t necessarily changed much since the Helton era, which is good news for Stanford. I don’t know if we will beat them this year, but stranger things have happened. https://insideusc.blog/2022/09/04/sunday...-usc-back/
