Won't be long before the LPGA is full of Stanford Women. Can't hurt recruiting.
Seay isn't the 5th, Englemann is. Seay was 3-0 in match play at nationals last year and was the low amateur at the Chevron Championship (LPGA major) as well. My guess is she's actually 3rd although might slip to 4th if Ganne continues to play this well
Seay is a returning first team All American. Assuming she returns to last season form, Englemann is our likely 5th. The only apparent contender for the spot is Caroline Strudza, who averaged 75.67 strokes in her only scored appearance this fall. (Seay is at 73.83, Englemann at 71.17.)
But there is vivid precedent for a first team All American not even making the first five in her following year: Lei Ye. A first team All American two seasons ago, she rarely played last season and hasn't played this fall.
Thanks for the corrections, I appreciate it. On one hand I agree that playing your way to the 5th position makes a lot of sense, but on the other hand I am not sure it is the best way. I once played a round at Stanford well after graduating and was paired with a young guy who at the end was something like 6 under from the back tees. He admitted to being on the golf team but when actually playing in a tournament his game fell apart. Sometimes the Coach has a better idea than any of us of who should go out as the 5th. I am particularly impressed with Anne Walker. I think it speaks volumes that players stick with her and Stanford instead of opting for the transfer portal.
