Thought better of this response. I acknowledge the argument that discrimination is discrimination. I think there's also an argument that this article is about historical discrimination that's different in degree and different in kind from Stanford's current affirmative action policies. For purposes of this thread, I just want to keep the two separate, rather than get into the merits of affirmative action or the question of whether affirmative action is the equivalent of the historical type of discrimination referenced in this article. Because I think doing so runs afoul of the politics ban on this board. Anyway, I sort of agree with your conclusion that this article isn't "news" because everyone already knew that Stanford discriminated against various minorities in the pre-Civil Rights Act era. But some of the links in this thread remain interesting to me.
