Ron Gould hasn’t had a running back he’s recruited NOT transfer out yet (in addition to a 4-star he inherited, Sione Lund, transferring out Gould has said sayonara to Justus Woods, Austin Jones, Nate Peat, and Arlen Harris). We’ll see how long Smith, Filkins, and Barrow (and Leigber now that he’s switched) can stomach it. Of course we have a RB coach problem. And, by the way, Gould looks like a failure at Stanford whether you look at recruiting, retention, production, contribution to offensive scheme, good vibes, or anything else that could be used to justify his job.
Yes, Ron Gould has had a sketchy track record as Stanford RB coach. Interestingly, Bear fans were all up in arms when Gould joined the Cardinal football staff just before Bryce Love's break-out year in 2017. Gould had coached some stellar UCB backs (Marshawn Lynch, Jahvid Best, Shane Vereen, etc.) during his tenure there (1997-2012), and the Cal faithful thought he would do the same at Stanford. Guess they needn't have worried. The post-Love RB record at Stanford is nothing to boast about. Cam Scarlett had some success, but he joined in 2015. That's it.
