So Cal Guy #1 is Ralston (erstwhile player and assistant for the Weenies), while Cal Guy #2 must be Taylor (Cal player from 1986-89 and Cal assistant from 1996-2000).  One big difference: Ralston was around 36 when he came to the Farm.  Taylor is already 54, so the big question is how much longer he will be willing to wait for a Division I head coaching job.  He might jump on whichever opportunity presents itself first.  And I tend to think Cal would be willing to part company with Wilcox before Stanford would send Shaw out to pasture.

Many at Cal would indeed "part company" from Wilcox if they could. However, he recently received a contract extension with massive buyout clauses for the next several years. They athletic department doesn't have that kind of money. They would have to get it from donors, and given how those people feel about the AD, they won't get it unless he goes too (with presumably another buyout required). Always possible, but unlikely at the moment.

Speaking of Buyouts; Auburn now has paid/will be paying $21.7 and $15.5 million in payouts to Malzahn and Harsin respectively in the last two plus years.  $37.2 Million is not spare change, even for the spoiled techies.  Where does Auburn come up with that can of coins?  Moonshine? Chewing Tobacco?
