I am being challenged -- perhaps not unreasonably -- in another thread for saying Stanford football this year is boring to watch (no one seems to be challenging my related comment that it is frustrating). VG's comments re the lack of imagination (which I have also characterized as revealing Shaw's conservatism, don't-make-mistakes, play-not-to-lose approach) express perhaps better than I did of what I find boring.
