Back in 1988, I never missed a home game. It was the year of Jon Volpe, with my dad complaining that Volpe was overused, and me pointing out that the was the only productive offensive weapon that Stanford had. Whatever the reason, Jack Elway called his number every other play. Since Volpe, like Dumbo, was not made of rubber, he did get dinged up and his last two seasons were not nearly as productive.
I knew nothing about him, then came across this profile (in the Tucson Weekly, back in 2004). Volpe's story is quite a story, amazing really. It would be enough to survive. To matriculate at Stanford, graduate, become a football star and a Rhodes Scholar candidate, go on to business success . . .it truly is astonishing.
Jon may be a lurker here. If so, congratulations. We hardly knew ye. Best of luck.

I wouldn't give you two cents for all your fancy rules if, behind them, they didn't have a little bit of plain, ordinary, everyday kindness - yeah, and a little looking out for the other fella, too.
