Why exactly is it so clear Stanford isn't playing up to its offensive talent? Leaving aside the QB question, there's only one reliable pass-catcher on the team--Ertz. Toilolo sometimes makes really good catches, but seems to blow very makeable catches on a regular basis. There's almost no speed. There is no reliable wide receiver. The wideouts are, if not the worst in the Pac-12, pretty darn close. The offensive line has been very good in pass-blocking situations, but has been just average in the run game.

Stepfan's a beast, but Wilkerson as the change-of-pace back leaves something to be desired. There's not a high-quality short-yardage specialist on the team with the absence of Stewart.

There are young players to hope for, but they sometimes take a while to develop.

In other words, it's an average-ish offensive team producing average-ish results. Unless you think Hogan or Nottingham or whomever is actually a top-tier QB, there isn't much that can be done to get dramatically better results-- maybe more Kelsey Young, more Remound Wright (and less Wilkerson) -- but in general these are revisions rather than new drafts of the offense.

So while I don't think Shaw has been exactly stellar with the offensive performance, I don't exactly think he's doing criminal malpractice either.
