One worthwhile add to this thread -- Bill Connelly keeps S&P ratings for "small schools" This year Sacramento State, by his reckoning, actually has a better defense than offense: https://twitter.com/ESPN_BillC/status/16...6690634753. (That's because offense is merely #2 in the country.) (FWIW, it looks like he projected Sacramento State to be #14 coming into the season.)
In 2021, Connelly had Sacramento State as #23 -- 18th in defense, 54th in offense.
In 2019, Connelly's "very, very beta" rankings put them at #11. (no apparent breakdown by offense vs. defense from what I can tell)
One consistent theme: at least by Connelly's reckoning, the Big Sky conference was one of, if not the, best in FCS.
