Generally I find booing deplorable for all the reasons mentioned.
But I did boo Stanford once. In 1975, we were way ahead of Army at Stanford Stadium. These very nice, agreeable military folks were there, trying to keep their spirits up despite the score with the theme from "Patton" and the like. We could've run the ball up the middle and won by four TDs. But Christensen kept throwing long passes, which Army's DBs simply couldn't defend. So we ran up the score on honorable opponents and probably made them feel bad for no reason. That deserved a boo or two.
Army beat us the next year and that cost Coach Chris his job.
