When I was 17, I was on my way to basketball practice on Hwy 1 in Santa Cruz during a driving rainstorm. There were an array of Eucalyptus trees, and we watched one topple over and land on the truck in front of us, stopping traffic in both directions. We skidded to a halt, and helped the driver out of his truck -- the windshield had shattered on him, and he was a mess. Fortunately, it was very close to Dominican Hospital, to which we transported him. Eucalyptus trees have very shallow roots, and it's a clear and present danger.
A large oak tree toppled in our local park during a rainstorm...happily, it fell at night. The local park employees had it disassembled and carted away within a week, they were really on top of it.
